Gas Boiler Installation Specialists Across the UK

What is gas boiler installation?

A first-time installation gives a home a gas boiler and the connections it needs, rather than simply exchanging an appliance. It can mean replacing electric heaters with radiators, bringing mains gas into a renovation project or rebuilding worn-out central heating pipework. Not sure which type of boiler suits the house? Combi, system and regular boilers explained sets out the differences.

Signs you may need gas boiler installation

  • You are planning wet central heating in a home with electric heaters.
  • Corroded or leaking pipework makes a wider heating refit worth discussing.
  • An extension changes the heat required in several rooms.

Work to discuss before booking

  • Survey and sizing: calculate room heat losses and discuss simultaneous hot-water use.
  • Supply and routes: size the gas run from the meter, assess the flue position and plan a suitable condensate drain. A new network connection or meter needs separate arrangements with the relevant providers.
  • Heating distribution: agree radiator sizes, valve positions, floor access and whether pipes will be concealed or surface-run. Protect flooring before work starts.
  • Installation: fit the boiler, pipework, radiators and compatible controls specified in the quotation. Stored hot water may require a cylinder and additional safety provisions.
  • Handover: clean and treat the system, test and commission the appliance, balance the radiators, explain controls and record the work. Agree waste removal and making good separately.

Budgeting for gas boiler installation

Allow £2,500–£6,500 as a broad starting budget. This is indicative, not a fixed quote or a measured local average. The radiator count, cylinder choice, distance from the meter and access below floors make a large difference. Extensive whole-house systems can exceed the guide range. Network connection charges, a new meter and major building repairs should be identified separately.

The service guide allows 2–5 days. That is a planning estimate, not a promised completion time; diagnosis, parts delivery and additional work may extend the job. Check the total includes the agreed work and ask how any extra charges will be approved.

Details to include in your enquiry

Explain how the property is heated now, whether a gas meter exists and how many bathrooms may be used together. Mention solid floors, planned insulation and any rooms being altered, so the engineer sizes the proposed system for the finished home.

Choosing a suitably qualified engineer

Gas work must be carried out by a suitably qualified Gas Safe registered engineer. Check the current ID card and its work categories against the Gas Safe Register; a plumbing qualification alone is not enough for gas boiler work. For an installation, replacement or move, ask who will handle the applicable notification and handover records. England and Wales use Building Regulations compliance certificates for notified boiler installations; Scotland and Northern Ireland have different procedures. The Building Regulations guidance explains the different routes. A warranty registration and a commissioning record are separate from building-control paperwork.

Compare the proposed work before deciding

Boiler-prices.co.uk introduces homeowners to independent heating businesses. One online enquiry can lead to up to four quotations, depending on the job, postcode and engineer availability. We do not employ the engineers or carry out the work. Companies joining the network are asked for relevant insurance details and references; you should still check the firm you intend to appoint.

Send your boiler enquiry. Agree any survey or diagnostic fee directly with the engineer before a visit. The chosen business is responsible for its quotation, appointments and work.

Practical questions about gas boiler installation

These answers explain the starting points for a discussion with an engineer.

How much does gas boiler installation cost?

The national guide range is £2,500–£6,500. Your written quote depends on the appliance, access and agreed scope. Additional work can take the total outside this range.

Does a new gas boiler installation include every radiator?

Only if the quotation specifies them. Ask for a radiator schedule with sizes and valves, pipe routes, controls and any cylinder. A boiler-only figure should not be treated as the cost of a complete central heating system.

How long should I allow for gas boiler installation?

Allow around 2–5 days for the work described in this guide. Confirm timing with the engineer because access, parts and unexpected faults can change the schedule.

Will I receive four quotations?

Up to four quotations may be available. The number depends on your postcode, the work required and the capacity of suitable independent engineers. There is no obligation to accept a quote.
